PirateWeaponBarge

Sometimes when a Pirate captures a ship, it is just too badly damaged to be refitted. In these cases, pirates strip as many useful parts as possible, and then turn the hull into their own version of a weapons barge. Often they will be placed around hidden bases, and disguised as wrecked barques to lure in the unwary.

Battle StrategyEdit

Weapon Barges are very situational. The obvious advantage is how cost efficient their fire power is. However, despite being cheaper, the Pirate Weapon Barge is somewhat inferior to the Imperial version, one reason why is the Pirate Weapon Barge's weaker hull, which although is made out of Reinforced Wood, has less than half the hit points, making it weaker overall despite using a stronger material. Weapon Barges are also immobile, making them unable to be used most of the time, as well as a sitting duck, unable to evade enemy fire and therefore taking more damage. There are two main ways to use them though. The first way is to buy them on maps where you need to defend a base, you simply leave it at the base which bolsters its defence. The second way is to tow it around, preferably with a Carrack as it has the highest thrust out of all the Pirate ships, thus removing the Weapon Barge's weakness.

TriviaEdit

  • The Pirate Weapon Barge is one of the three ships with a hull made primarily out of Reinforced Wood, with the other two being the Pirate Barque and the Carrack.
  • The Pirate Weapon Barge, along with the Procyon Minelayer, are the only ships to not appear in the campaign or in any of the historical skirmishes: only being found in open skirmishes.
  • Pirate Weapon Barges are never selected by the AI in open skirmishes.
  • In Open Skirmishes, like their Imperial Counterparts, all Pirate Weapon Barges are named after Greek letters.
